e-678 (Electoral system)

E-petition
Initiated by Dan Jenneson from North vancouver, British Columbia

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada campaigned in 2015 on the promise that 2015 would be the last election decided by the first past the post electoral system;
  • Justin Trudeau campaigned in 2015 on a promise of electoral reform in order to make every vote count; and
  • The majority of Canadians in 2015 voted for a party which campaigned on electoral reform (the Liberal Party, the New Democratic Party, and the Green Party).
We, the undersigned, Citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to implement an open list mixed-member proportional representation electoral system in time to be used for the next federal election, without the use of a referendum on the matter.
