E-petition
Initiated by Rachel Enns from Vernon, British Columbia

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • It is essential that federal statutes, especially the Criminal Code, provide accurate descriptions and definitions;
  • The term “pornography” commonly describes consensual acts between adults;
  • “Pornography” should not describe sexual abuse that children cannot consent to; and
  • Use of the term “child pornography” in the Criminal Code and other statutes does not properly describe child sexual abuse material.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to support Private Members Bill C-291, the Act to amend the Criminal Code of Canada and make consequential amendments to other acts to replace the term “child pornography” with “child sexual abuse material".
