Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • The adoption of electronic logging devices has been positioned as a tool to promote public safety;
  • The implementation of electronic logging devices has been known to cause operators of the vehicle that require electronic logging devices by the law to lose work because the vehicle has been merely started to warm up, or in an otherwise stationary position, and the ignition has been merely engaged;
  • The use of electronic logging devices has been especially problematic in Canada's cold climates;
  • That electronic logging devices are not suited to the needs of the Canadian oil and gas sector; and
  • Electronic logging devices are very expensive to operators of the vehicles that require them.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Adjust the operating time of electronic logging devices to commence when the vehicle is in a state of motion; and
2. Ensure the acquisition and the installation of these electronic logging devices are cost-effective to the owners and the operators of the vehicles while ensuring the safety of Canadians.
