Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) eligibility requirement of no income earned means that many self-employed Canadians and part-time workers are not eligible, despite having had their earnings significantly impacted; and
  • This exclusion is an oversight, as it not only neglects these individuals that need assistance but also provides the wrong type of incentive that hurts consumers, damages the economy, and results in loss of government tax revenues.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to amend the CERB so that it includes self-employed and part-time workers that have experienced an income reduction due to COVID-19; and to also provide income assistance to those with affected earnings but who are still working.
