Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Feminist women’s organizations have been struggling for decades to keep the lights on and doors open due to a lack of federal core operations funding;
  • Feminist women’s organizations are the most underfunded in Canada’s non-profit sector, yet they are the single most effective means to building better lives for women;
  • Feminist women’s organizations need reliable, long-term, stable operational funding and direct investment to help women;
  • The Government of Canada’s program funding is insecure, competitive, and takes workers’ time away from helping more women;
  • Direct federal funding to women’s organizations represents less than 0.01% of total federal program spending; only about $1 for every woman in Canada; and
  • The Government of Canada needs to dedicate the political and financial support, resources, and funding to meet Canada’s long-standing international and constitutional commitments on women’s equality;
We, the undersigned, Women’s March Canada - Saskatoon, call upon the Government of Canada to immediately provide secure, multi-year core operational funding to feminist women’s organizations and set national standards to ensure equality of access to services and protection for all women.
