Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • 2017 is the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation;
  • This anniversary is built on significant freedoms under the law;
  • Canada has been a leader in the fight for human rights since the Act Against Slavery in 1793; and
  • We are in the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent.
We, the undersigned, supporters of the Royal Commonwealth Society of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to declare August 1st as Emancipation Day across Canada.
