Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • The Prime Minister promised during the election to reduce taxes for “the middle class and those working to join it”;
  • A carbon tax will cost the middle class and those working to join it;
  • Redacted documents demonstrate that the government has done analysis of how this carbon tax will impact Canadians’ budgets, including the price increases of home heating, gas, electricity, and grocery bills; and
  • Analysis conducted by the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation says the carbon tax could cost $1028 per person per year, or $4112 per year for a family of four, and the government has not confirmed or denied whether this estimate is accurate.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to immediately, completely and fully release all estimates of cost burdens of the federally mandated carbon tax on Canadian families.
