Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Canada has thousands of quality craft beers from coast to coast to coast. Canadian brewers should have the right to sell their products anywhere in Canada without government interference. Consumers also deserve better and eliminating internal trade barriers will provide greater choice to all Canadians;
  • These outdated and unnecessary laws are stifling Canada’s economic growth and hurting Canadian small business. Eliminating these unnecessary trade barriers will drastically improve Canada’s economy. Freer trade amongst the provinces and territories will grow the Canadian economy and will create jobs;
  • Maintaining inter-provincial trade barriers is an infringement on our constitutional rights as Canadians. Section 121 of the Canadian constitution states: “All Articles of the Growth, Produce, or Manufacture of any one of the Provinces shall, from and after the Union, be admitted free into each of the other Provinces.”; and
  • Eliminating trade barriers between the provinces is good for our economy, it is good for families, and it is good for Canada.
We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to amend the Importation of Intoxicating Liquors Act to remove prohibitions with respect to liquors sent, taken or transported within Canada.
