Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled

Whereas:
  • Natural Health Products (NHPs) cover a broad range of products, including children’s and adult vitamins, probiotics, protein powders, toothpastes and other health-enhancing products;
  • NHPs have been declared safe and effective by the Standing Committee on Health (HESA);
  • Countless Canadians, businesses as well as amateur and professional athletic associations rely on the NHPs sector to maintain or improve their health, earn an income for their families, or as a natural, healthy aid to achieving optimal athletic performance;
  • The Government of Canada’s budget of 2023 contained clauses authorizing Health Canada to create a new regulatory regime for therapeutic products that erroneously includes NHPs with other pharmaceutical and chemical based products, and is legally a "mistake of fact"; and
  • Bill C-368 would remedy this ‘mistake of fact’ by repealing the offending clauses from the law, and amending the definition of therapeutic products to exclude NHPs, as well as other necessary changes to ensure Canadians’ continued access to affordable NHPs.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to ask the following: That members of Parliament vote in support of Bill C-368 at the second and third reading stages, so that it may receive royal assent and come into force.
