Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
- Today, women in the federal public service earn an average of $69,992, about 91% of the $77,300 that men earn (fiscal year 2015-2016);
- The House of Commons Special Committee on Pay Equity is recommending a new proactive federal law for public and private sector workers;
- Pay equity is a fundamental human right. Equal pay for work of equal value should be the law for all Canadians; and
- This issue has been studied for many years. There is no need to wait to introduce new legislation.
We, the undersigned, Citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to enact pay equity legislation to protect all of its employees and those of federally regulated industries.
