Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • The last adequate document on violent victimization of LGBTQI2A Canadians was Brianna Jaffray's article "Experiences of violent victimization and unwanted sexual behaviours among gay, lesbian, bisexual and other sexual minority people, and the transgender population, in Canada, 2018";
  • Jaffray's document is already nearly five years old and out of date;
  • There has been no (or limited) research into hate crimes against Trans folx since the 2018 "Survey of Safety in Public and Private Spaces (SSPPS)";
  • That the next Survey of Safety in Public and Private Spaces (SSPPS) is set to be completed in 2023; and
  • March 31st is marked as Trans Day of Visibility.
We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to direct that the Survey of Safety in Public and Private Spaces (SSPPS) be more specific in their upcoming survey and identify specific statistics related to the victimization of Trans folx.
