Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas :
  • Approximately 1.3 million people are likely affected by long COVID in Canada;
  • All of these people suffer from a variety of debilitating symptoms, to varying degrees. For some, their ability to work, if at all, and their mobility have been severely impacted. Their social and family life is no longer possible as before;
  • These patients are not taken seriously because, apart from a clinical assessment, there is no sure way of diagnosis that is approved in Canada; and
  • Health Canada’s website states: “There’s currently no universally agreed-upon approach to diagnose and treat post COVID-19 condition.” Yet this statement is no longer true as a reliable diagnostic test has been developed in the United States and has been approved by the European Union. In addition, researchers at Western University in Ontario have documented similar findings. (See the discovery by Dr. Douglas Fraser’s team at the Lawson Health Research Institute.)
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada,call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Recognize and approve a diagnostic test for long COVID in Canada; and
2. Provide access to it for patients with symptoms similar to long COVID-19.
