Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • With Canada being a G7 country that legalized cannabis, allows an opportunity to aid our environmental recovery, rebuild our economy and improve Canadians quality of life;
  • The cannabis industry generates $15.1 billion in tax revenues and $3 billion in Ontario and requires legislation reform;
  • The economic health of the cannabis industry is at risk due to high taxation and fees making it difficult for cannabis businesses to be profitable;
  • Required support for consumer safety, making it difficult to obtain illegal cannabis consumable, potentially containing higher levels of cannabis or impurities;
  • The need to keep the illegal financial profits out of criminals pockets;
  • The need to introduce cannabis tourism/hospitality, creating new career opportunities aiding in economic recovery, complementing the USA as it has only started and already generating over $17 billion dollars;
  • Hemp creates environmental benefits, textile, food, insulation, medicine, biofuel, paper, and 25,000 other products expanding the small business sector that makes up 98.1% of all employer businesses in Canada; and
  • Hemp is indigenous heritage and can positively contribute to the $32 billion annually to Canada's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with the private sector economy contributing over $12 billion.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Revise the Cannabis Act to support a cannabis tourism/hospitality industries including spas, farm gates, hotels, restaurants, infused food, lounges, etc.;
2. Revise cannabis marketing and allowing direct from producer to retail sales;
3. Lower taxes/regulatory fees;
