Original language of petition: English

Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Part of the Minister of Natural Resources’ mandate letter instructs him to move forward with “Just Transition” legislation, essentially a move to phase out energy sector jobs;
  • The government has not been clear as to exactly how many jobs in the energy sector that they want to terminate and why;
  • Reports indicate that approximately 600,000 Canadians are either directly or indirectly employed in the oil and gas industry. These workers live predominantly in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • The Trudeau government has launched countless attacks on Alberta’s energy sector workers, evidenced by Bill C-69 (also known as their “No More Pipelines Bill”), their proposed cap on the energy sector, their so-called “Just Transition” and more;
  • The Liberal government is only worsening western alienation by continuing their attacks on Alberta’s jobs; and
  • The Liberal government should be focused on job growth in the midst of the economic downturn Canada is currently facing, not phasing jobs out.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to create more jobs in Western Canada, not try and end them.
