Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Our entrepreneurs who are dedicated to reducing waste need support;
  • Quebec has set environmental targets, and to reach them, we need everyone to pitch in;
  • According to a Léger Marketing survey, 93% of respondents think that waste management is a major issue that needs to be addressed quickly;
  • Entrepreneurs who own eco-friendly neighbourhood grocery stores are not only making waste reduction a priority, but also investing their time and money to support the cause;
  • Entrepreneurs who own eco-friendly neighbourhood grocery stores act as a catalyst, giving regular citizens a more tangible way to do their part;
  • The pandemic has had, and continues to have, a significant impact on their ability to support the cause, and that the economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that they are facing are both very real and very serious;
  • Some have had to close their doors, while others are dealing with significant personal issues and supply issues; and
  • Doing nothing is not an option, since we need them and they are agents of change in our communities and we need to support them.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Quebec and Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to provide financial support, in the form of grants, to businesses whose mission is to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills and to make our Quebec, and our planet, a better place in the future.
