Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Beginning on February 24, Russia invaded Ukraine in the most coordinated military action in Europe since World War II;
  • More than 4000 homes have been annihilated, resulting in more than half of Ukrainian children being forced to flee their homes;
  • According to municipal government data of Mariupol, more than 80% of critical infrastructure is destroyed and the level of destruction bears resemblance to the annihilation of Aleppo and Grozny;
  • The shelling of the theater, and the children’s hospital and maternity ward are all war crimes perpetrated by Russian aggressors;
  • As of March 27, Kremlin’s “special military operation” has brought the death of more than 139 children, with at least 205 being wounded;
  • According to estimates from the KSE Institute, the invasion has resulted in the destruction and occupation of more than 400 educational facilities, 36 healthcare facilities, 1600 residential buildings, 26 factories and warehouses, 15 airports, and six power plants;
  • Additionally, Russian aggressors have occupied two nuclear power plants; and
  • Furthermore, in repelling Kremlin’s aggression, Ukraine suffered losses in the form of destruction of more than 15 000 km of roads and high-ways, 5000 km of active railways and 350 bridges and pedestrian crossings.
We, the undersigned, citizens and permanent residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Facilitate the delivery of additional aerial defense systems and lethal weapons to strengthen Ukrainian troops ability to repel air based attacks; and
2. Support the creation of local no-fly zones to ensure uninterrupted logistics of vital defensive and lethal weapons.
