Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled

Whereas:
  • The ban on gay and bisexual men, along with certain transgender folks, who have intercourse with men from donating blood is discriminatory and unscientific;
  • The blood ban violates the amendment made to the Canadian Human Rights Act in 1998 which included sexual orientation as one of the prohibited grounds of discrimination;
  • Canadian Blood Services has expressed an "immediate" need for blood that can be allievated by lifting these restrictions on donation; and
  • Ending the ban will be a significant step forward for LGBTQ+ rights in Canada and towards equality.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to end the ban on the donation of blood from the aforementioned groups as it violates the prohibited grounds of discrimination established in the Canadian Human Rights Act amendments (1998), it contradicts the research of Canada Blood Services, and its reversal can alleviate the dire need for blood in this country.
