Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Banks can charge fees for insufficient funds. These fees make difficult financial times ever harder.
  • These fees are preying on single parents working multiple jobs, people who have lost their job, and anyone living with low-income or no income.
  • People who cannot afford a payment definitely can't afford a fee for insufficient funds.
  • Many Canadians are living paycheque-to-paycheque just to make ends meet. These fees add to their struggles and hinder their credit score.
  • It's ridiculous that people who can't afford to make a payment are also fined by their own bank institution for not being able to afford said payment.
We, the undersigned, Canadian citizens, call upon the government of Canada to create a law to prevent banks from charging fees for insufficient funds.
