E-petition
Initiated by Graham McMullen from Shedden, Ontario

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Canadians have very busy days and finding the time to vote is difficult;
  • Long lines are most common after regular working hours;
  • While Canadians have the right to leave work to cast their vote, most wait until after working hours to vote when they still need to care for their children and other daily tasks, like making dinner; and
  • Voting is foundational to our democracy and Canadians shouldn't be told to "find the time to vote" while still needing to work for an income.
We, the undersigned, Canadian citizens, call upon the Government of Canada to recognize the day of a federal election as a federal statutory holiday to increase the ability for Canadian citizens to cast their vote.
