Petition to the Minister of Health

Whereas:
  • Global vaccination is the foundation for overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • The development of the COVID-19 vaccine was publicly funded and the result of collaboration by researchers worldwide;
  • This collective discovery was handed over to private pharmaceutical companies that are currently refusing to lift their patents, even temporarily, so that generic vaccines could be produced for developing countries; and
  • This refusal, while legal, is immoral, and impedes the achievement of our objective: to eliminate a virus that is a threat to us and is disrupting our lives.
We, the undersigned, residents of Quebec, call upon the Minister of Health to support the call of the World Health Organization (WHO) to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to waive patents for COVID-19 vaccines to ensure that more people around the world can be vaccinated, particularly in developing countries.
