Original language of petition: English

Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Several police officers have given their lives in service to their communities, from coast to coast to coast, since organized public policing came to Canada in 1835;
  • There was a time in Canada when police officers were treated with the same respect given to family members, because they truly served (and still serve) their communities following the social norms expected in Canadian culture;
  • Unfortunately, through media reporting on a different kind of social norm being followed by many police jurisdictions in the United States, Canadian police officers have been painted with the same brush and cries for social reform for policing in the United States have found their way into Canada; and
  • Despite the unjustified labeling, Canadian police officers continue to offer their lives to serve and protect.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to support our request to recognize the ultimate sacrifice of Canadian police officers by passing this petition to the Canada Post Corporation for the issuance of a unique stamp honouring this never ending sacrifice provided to all members of the Canadian society, as part of a Canadian police officer’s service to all the people of Canada, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sex, age or religious beliefs.
