Petition to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities

Whereas:
  • We urge you to commit to a long-term, permanent solution providing shelter services to women experiencing homelessness in Ottawa;
  • Cornerstone Housing for Women has lost its temporary shelter space and urgently seeks a new space in a short time frame;
  • This is unacceptable and funding is essential to support Cornerstone in providing a stable, supportive shelter space for women and gender-diverse individuals in need of shelter in Ottawa; and
  • Cornerstone needs funding immediately from the National Housing Co-Investment Fund (NHCF) which recently committed to $750 million in new funding, as well as $250 million to support the construction, repair, and operating costs of transitional housing and shelter spaces for women and children fleeing violence.
We, the undersigned, Residents of the City of Ottawa, call upon the Government of Canada to commit to immediately release funding from the National Housing Co-Investment Fund or the Rapid Housing Fund to Cornerstone Housing for Women to provide them a permanent shelter and housing location to support 125 women experiencing homelessness in Ottawa.
