Original language of petition: English

Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • First Responders are professionals who selflessly serve and care for their local communities as police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians;
  • As many first responders volunteer their services to their communities;
  • Those first responders have given above-and-beyond of themselves during the COVID-19 Crisis;
  • As COVID-19 has added more duties and expectations to their roles and responsibilities; and
  • In all of Canada, only the Province of Ontario has declared an official day of appreciation for first responders, May 1.
We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to enact a bill declaring May 1, to be a national day of appreciation for first responders, in recognition of their selfless front-line service to their communities.
