E-petition
Initiated by Ryan Painter from Victoria, British Columbia

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the Prime Minister

Whereas:
  • The province of British Columbia has written to the Federal Government requesting that they "develop a national plan to move towards a change in policy around controlled substances for personal use";
  • Vancouver Police Chief and President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Adam Palmer has stated that “Arresting individuals for simple possession of illicit drugs has proven to be ineffective. It does not save lives.”; and
  • The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police has called on the Federal Government to create a national task force to look into drug policy reform.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to immediately move to establish a task force to examine processes and regulations towards decriminalizing simple possession of controlled substances.
