Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • It is our obligation as Canadians to lead a global example to protect our ocean's ecological systems; and
  • The populations of many shark species are in rapid decline and government intervention is needed.
We, the undersigned, citizens or residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Recognize that the importation and fishing of endangered sharks has a drastic negative impact on the shark populations;
2. Consider the International Union for Conservation of Nature's list concerning the status of shark species that illustrates the decline of numerous populations;
3. Ban the importation and sale of species listed as endangered or critically endangered on the aforementioned list; and
4. Place a responsible limit on the amount of sharks that may be imported into Canada.
