Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • The Government has regularly acknowledged that climate change is the most pressing issue of the day;
  • The Government has committed to achieving net zero by 2050;
  • Canadians depend on the Government to make decisions that are in the best interest of the environment and future generations;
  • The proposed project is likely to result in adverse environmental effects to wetlands, old-growth forests, old-growth reliant species and Canada's biodiversity; and
  • The proposed project is likely to have dire effects to Indigenous groups, their land and culture.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to reject the proposal to build the Teck Resources Frontier Oilsands Mine in Alberta as it is not in the best interest of Canadians.

Response by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change

Signed by (Minister or Parliamentary Secretary): The Honourable JONATHAN WILKINSON

The Teck Frontier Oil Sands Mine Proposal was a project being assessed under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012. At the proponent’s request, the project review was terminated on February 25, 2020.
