Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • The YMCAs in Montreal have always provided a place for social interaction and support that promotes healthy living;
  • Shutting down, even partially, activities at the Guy-Favreau, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Pointe-Saint-Charles YMCAs will affect the quality of life of people who live mostly in disadvantaged neighbourhoods;
  • Recent research shows the importance of physical activity and social interaction to maintaining good physical and mental health; and
  • The social and health costs of this shutdown could be high and are avoidable.
We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to support the continued operation of the YMCA network and its services to the public in order to promote healthy living among all Canadians, particularly the least fortunate in our society.
