E-petition
Initiated by Lisa Hall from Edmonton, Alberta

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change

Whereas:
  • Canadians share a deep concern for our environment and recognize its inherent value;
  • It is important to safeguard the rights of present and future generations to a healthy and ecologically balanced environment;
  • It is the federal government’s public trust duty to protect the environment under its jurisdiction;
  • Canadians should have the right of access to legal tools to hold the government accountable to protect their environment, including accessing information, standing before courts and tribunals, and enforcement of environmental laws;
  • The ability of the government to protect the environment is enhanced when the public is constructively engaged; and
  • Employees deserve whistleblower protection when they take actions supporting those rights and duties.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to enact Bill C-438, the Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights.
