Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
- A free and open media is an important part of our democracy;
- Canadians must have confidence that the media is accurate, transparent, free from bias or agenda other than reporting the news; and
- Any compensation from the government, financial or otherwise, to media organisations risks undermining Canadians’ confidence in the integrity and neutrality of the media at large.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to immediately reverse their decision to financially compensate media organisations and reverse the decision to allow them to issue tax incentives to Canadians.
