Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain expansion project was approved by the National Energy Board and the federal government on November 29, 2016;
  • The project is in the national interest of Canada;
  • The project will inject billions of dollars into the Canadian economy, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Canadians, and will generate billions of dollars in additional taxes and royalties to the federal, provincial, and municipal governments;
  • The project continues to face ongoing roadblocks, delays, and threats from other levels of government and anti-energy activists;
  • Kinder Morgan set a deadline of May 31, 2018, for the federal government to provide certainty for a path forward for the Trans Mountain Expansion;
  • The federal government promised to propose legislation to reassert that the project is under federal jurisdiction;
  • As of May 24, 2018, one week before the deadline, the federal government has failed to propose their promised legislation or a plan of any kind;
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada,, call upon the Government of Canada to work with the opposition to expedite the debate, study, and vote on Bill S-245, the Trans Mountain Pipeline Project Act, to officially declare the Expansion in the general advantage of Canada, and it to enact it promptly.
