e-1459 (Drinking water)

E-petition
Initiated by Tom Philip from North York, Ontario

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • One third of First Nations water refineries have been at high or medium risk of producing non-potable drinking water;
  • According to Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada's assessment criteria, there are numerous examples of failed water-treatment plants, water towers and other infrastructure among Canada's 600 plus reserves; and
  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has vowed to end boil-water advisories on reserves by 2021.
We, the undersigned, Citizens and Residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1) Ensure that water treatment plants in First Nation communities have the resources they need to maintain their facilities;
2) Stay committed to helping build and maintain water treatment plants in First Nations communities; and
3) Support Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada so they have enough money for capital requirements for Canada’s Reserves.
