Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Atrocities are being committed against Myanmar's Rohingya Muslim minority in the Rakhine State by the Myanmar military and nationalists;
  • These atrocities are being committed under the de facto leadership of Aung San Suu Kyi;
  • Aung San Suu Kyi has been unwilling to condemn these atrocities (of which she is fully aware);
  • Aung San Suu Kyi’s inaction on this matter is inconsistent with Canadian values and the principles of democracy, freedom, human rights and the rule of law —principles which were used to justify giving Aung San Suu Kyi her honorary Canadian Citizenship; and
  • Aung San Suu Kyi has recently denied entry to the international UN investigation team from visiting the Rakhine State and has hindered international humanitarian aid to the area.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to revoke the honorary Canadian citizenship given to Aung San Suu Kyi and unequivocally condemn the atrocities committed by Myanmar's military and Myanmar nationalist groups against that nation's Rohingya Muslim minority.
