Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
The Finance Minister announced on July 18, 2017 a public consultation on proposed tax changes affecting how private corporations operate in Canada;
The Finance Minister’s proposals will increase taxes on investment income for small business people to 73%, force middle class farmers and small businesses to spend more on compliance and red tape and reduce the number of family doctors in our communities;
As of December 2015, there were 1.14 million small businesses in Canada employing over 8.2 million Canadians (70.5%) of the total private labour force according to Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada; and
These proposed changes could have a significant negative impact on Canada’s economy, increase unemployment, and result in countless hard-working small business owners having to shut their doors.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Minister of Finance to: (a) cancel these proposed tax increases; and (b) honour their election promise to lower the small business tax rate.
