e-1233 (Canada Pension Plan)

E-petition
Initiated by Barry Conroy from Kingston, Ontario

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled

Whereas:
  • Most Canadians work believing that if they pay into a registered pension plan, as well as health benefits, that they will be protected if they or one in their family gets ill;
  • Very few Canadians know that if they get struck with bad health and an injury, that the current system created by the federal government allows the pension providers and insurance companies to deduct every dollar of Canada Pension Plan Disability Benefit, from the pension you paid for retroactively; and
  • Very few Canadian know that this retroactivity places them in debt to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. Many have to sell or mortagage their homes to repay the government and insurance companies. This doesn't happen to healthy people.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to pass legislation in Parliament, to review and eventually disallow the deducting of the Canada Pension Plan Disability benefits from sick Canadians registered pensions, these pensions have been paid for by Canadians by means of deductions from their pay checks, and to pass legislation in Parliament to retroactively return all monies deducted from these disabled Canadians registered income.
