PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

Whereas:

  • Teck Resources Limited Frontier Mine is estimated to produce 260,000 barrels of bitumen per day;
  • An estimated 3,000 hectares of old-growth forest is estimated to be cut to make room for the proposed mine;
  • The Frontier Mine is estimated to develop over 14,000 hectares of wetlands;
  • Environment and Climate Change Canada's submission to the environmental review panel found that the Frontier Mine is 24 per cent more carbon intensive than the lowest carbon-intensive oilsands development projects; and,
  • Canada has made clear international climate commitments, and the approval of Teck's Frontier Mine does not fall in line with those commitments.

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to:

  • Reject Teck's Frontier Mine project proposal and halt any existing or planned construction.

Response by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change

Signed by (Minister or Parliamentary Secretary): The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson
