Petitions at dissolution

The House is scheduled to sit until June 21, 2019, and may not resume sitting before the dissolution of Parliament in advance of the expected election date of October 21, 2019. Through a message posted on the petitions website earlier this spring, petitioners have been advised to select the period their petition will be open for signature accordingly, as it is not possible to change the closing date of an existing e-petition.

At dissolution, the petitions website will be closed and all e-petitions not yet presented to the House will be withdrawn, and the obligation for the government to respond to those petitions will also lapse. All e-petitioners will receive an email informing them of the status of their petition. Should a petitioner wish to pursue an issue in the form of an e-petition in the next Parliament, they may start the process anew approximately three weeks after the general election, when the petitions website reopens.

A paper petition that was not presented in this Parliament can be sent to a Member elected in the upcoming election for presentation to the House of Commons in the next Parliament.
