Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • About 25 million people, of whom over 14 million are children, need immediate humanitarian assistance and support;
  • Alarmingly 17.7 million people, more than one-third of the country’s population, are facing acute food insecurity under a warning of potential famine;
  • More than 8.6 million people have fled their homes since the conflict started, including families of Canadian citizen and permanent residents; and
  • Nearly 230,000 severely malnourished children in refugee camps are facing death in the coming months if they don’t get food and health care with 13 child deaths each day according to recent reports by Doctors Without Borders.
We, the undersigned, Canadian citizens and residence of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Urgently push the two rival factions and impose a temporary ceasefire to ensure safe and adequate delivery of humanitarian aids;
2. Call upon bordering countries to open secure corridors to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery;
3. Extend the Family-based permanent residence pathway to help more evacuees reunite with their family members in Canada;
4. Remove financial requirement for the anchor specially for individuals and families with limited income such as single mothers, persons with disabilities, etc.;
5. Urge provinces and territories to launch special provincial immigration programs for evacuees or to implement temporary processing measures on existing programs;
6. Implement temporary processing measures for Sudanese refugees and asylum seekers recognized by UNHCR to be offered resettlement in Canada;
7. Grant temporary travel visa for evacuees to travel, study and work in Canada;
8. Allow security screening and biometric requirements to take place in Canada.
