Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • There are strong indications of excessive pollution of the air, land, and water in the Aamjiwnaang community;
  • There has been minimal research into the health and environmental effects of the air, land, and water pollution in the Aamjiwnaang community on behalf of the government; and
  • There are strong indications from third party studies, including the World Health Organization, that the aforementioned air, land, and water pollution in the Aamjiwnaang community is adversely affecting the health and wellbeing of citizens.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Acknowledge the risk that excessive pollution poses to the residents of Aamjiwnaang;
2. Launch an official inquiry into the effects of excessive pollution on the health and wellbeing of the residents of the Aamjiwnaang community, conducted by the Ministry of Health or any other sufficiently equipped government organization; and
3. Address the causes of issues of the Aamjiwnaang community, such as the extremely abnormal 2:1 female-to-male birth ratio, heightened rates of cancer, and heightened incidence of miscarriages among women in the Aamjiwnaang community.
