Terms of Use for Creating an Account

By creating an account, you acknowledge, understand and accept the following:

  • You must carefully read the guide entitled Electronic Petitions — Guide for Creating and Submitting a Petition, which is available on the House of Commons petitions website.
  • The purpose of this account is to provide the House of Commons with the necessary information about you so that you may be contacted by the House of Commons or the Member of Parliament who authorizes online publication of an e-petition put forward by you, in accordance with the Electronic Petitions — Guide for Creating and Submitting a Petition, these Terms of Use and the Terms of Use for Creating and Submitting an E-petition.
  • You must provide your full name, city, province or territory, country, postal code, phone number and email address.
  • Your personal information will not be shared or publicly disclosed, except in accordance with the Electronic Petitions — Guide for Creating and Submitting a Petition, these Terms of Use and the Terms of Use for Creating and Submitting an E-petition.
  • Any draft e-petitions saved on this website, including information relating to supporters, may be consulted by the Clerk of Petitions at any time.
  • It is the petitioner's responsibility to inform potential supporters that their name and email address will be inputted in the e-petitions system and used to contact them when creating and submitting an e-petition.
  • Only one e-petition per petitioner may be active in the system at one time.
  • During election periods, you will not be able to create, submit or take further action on any e-petition. Upon the dissolution of Parliament, any e-petition initiated but not yet presented to the House will be withdrawn. Shortly after the election, you will be able to resubmit a petition that was withdrawn upon the dissolution or create new petitions.
  • Your account may be closed under the following circumstances:
    • At any time, if the House of Commons determines, in its sole and absolute discretion, that the Electronic Petitions — Guide for Creating and Submitting a Petition, these Terms of Use or any other Terms of Use relating to e-petitions have been breached.
    • Upon written request to the Clerk of Petitions, provided you do not have an active e-petition. The Clerk of Petitions may require you to validate your identity before closing an account upon your request.
  • Information already made public or shared with a Member of Parliament in accordance with the Electronic Petitions — Guide for Creating and Submitting a Petition, these Terms of Use and the Terms of Use for Creating an E-petition may not be amended or deleted.
  • A breach of these Terms of Use may amount to contempt of the House of Commons.
  • These Terms of Use may, at the sole and absolute discretion of the House of Commons, be subject to change at any time.
