Petitions at dissolution

Parliament was dissolved on September 11, 2019, and, as a consequence, the House of Commons Petitions website is closed and all e-petitions not yet presented to the House as of that date were withdrawn.

The government’s obligation to respond to a petition presented in the House likewise ends at dissolution. All e-petitioners have received an email informing them of the status of their e-petition. Should a petitioner wish to pursue an issue in the form of an e-petition in the next Parliament, they may start the process anew approximately three weeks after the general election, when the petitions website reopens.

A paper petition that was not presented before Parliament was dissolved can be sent to a Member of the next Parliament for presentation when the House of Commons resumes sitting.
