Petition to the House of Commons
Whereas:
- Russian Federation President Putin has launched an unprovoked invasion of the sovereign country of Ukraine;
- The channel Russia Today (RT) has been recognized by press integrity monitors, world leaders, including French President Macron, intelligence agencies, and independent academics, as failing to apply basic journalism standards and a propaganda tool of the Putin regime;
- Canada’s Broadcasting Act Part 3 Section 1(d) requires that, “…the Canadian broadcasting system should (i) serve to safeguard, enrich and strengthen the cultural, political, social and economic fabric of Canada...”; and
- The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has refused to review RT’s presence on Canadian television.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to exercise its authority over the CRTC to quickly ensure that RT is removed from the Canadian broadcast system.
