e-624 (Sex offenders)

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled

Whereas:
  • Reported sexual crimes against children have increased by 6% since 2013;
  • An estimated 94% of sexual crimes go unreported;
  • Persons convicted of sexual offences against children are often eligible for parole in a matter of months after their sentencing; and
  • Serial sex offenders are able to serve concurrent sentences for multiple offences
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to amend the Criminal Code of Canada to:
Automatically designate persons convicted of multiple sexual crimes against a child or children as dangerous offenders;
Increase mandatory minimum sentences for sexual crimes against children;
Increase the period of parole ineligibility for persons convicted of sexual crimes against children; and
Ensure that criminals convicted of multiple sexual offences against a child or children serve their sentences consecutively.
