Petition to Pierre Poilievre
Whereas:
- Canada is a nation that prides itself on the values of inclusion, tolerance, and diversity of all peoples;
- Canada is a global leader in the protection of LGBTQ2S+ rights, being one of the first in the world to recognize LGBTQ rights such as same-sex marriage; and
- Canada’s Constitution, through the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, protects all Canadians from discriminatory actions and policies.
We, the undersigned, Canadian Public, call upon Pierre Poilievre to:
1. Rescind and formally apologize for his harmful comments made towards the LGBTQ2S+ community on February 21, 2024, in which he expressed contempt towards the rights of innocent Canadian children and adults alike;
2. Commit to respecting the rights of trans Canadians and to acknowledge that transitioned peoples have a right to access the public facilities that belong to their current gender; and
3. Clarify whether or not he was making a harmful implication that a threat is posed by trans persons, especially trans women, using female facilities such as washrooms and change rooms.
