Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • There are thousands of older Canadians and senior citizens aged 65+ currently caring for adult children with severe autism and/or other physical and mental disabilities;
  • These Canadians are becoming less and less able to handle such challenges, both physical and emotional, as they age while at the same time having to face and care for their own health challenges;
  • The future care of their disabled children is a continual source of worry to their aging parents; and
  • This is a problem that occurs in every province and territory in Canada and reflects a very large gap in the support network for Canadians, especially seniors.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to work with parents and caregivers to provide targeted funding opportunities made available to facilitate the setting up of affordable group homes and residences that provide appropriate and continued care to aging Canadians coping with severe autism and/or other physical and mental disabilities.
